Polycom, the leader in the videoconference market place, released the ViewStation FX and it quickly became the signature Polycom Viewstation product. The Polycom ViewStation H.323 was a previously established model, but the ViewStation FX was an improved product. This unit came with more included features that lessened the need to purchase additional accessories.

The Polycom ViewStation FX supports 2Mbps via an IP connection, and can expand to a PRI/ISDN network with an optional ISDN PRI interface. The ViewStation FX also supports a letterbox display (16:9 - aspect ratio) with calls placed at 512Kbps between other Polycom EX, FX and VS4000 products.

An advantage of the Polycom ViewStation FX for use as a video conferencing solution was its inclusion of a VGA port, which was not previously available as a built-in option. Now you could receive computer content in a videoconference call and keep it in its native resolution – provided there was a VGA monitor to support it. This feature required a dual monitor setup, as this function could not be accomplished in a single monitor environment.

he Polycom ViewStation FX also supported four-site multi-point, which previously had to be purchased separately. So right out of the box, if a T1 – IP line or ISDN network was present; you could host three additional sites simultaneously in a call – yourself being the fourth, host site. This was a great option compared to other Polycom video products.

In addition, an optional device was available, the “Visual Concert FX,” which allowed for the sharing of computer content in a video conferencing call. Connect a laptop or desktop computer to the Visual Concert FX, and press the play button to begin sharing PC images and media in a videoconference call with this Polycom video accessory.

Finally, the Polycom ViewStation FX could support up to four monitors. For example, when placing a multi-point cal, each site could be displayed on its own monitor, including one for the host.

Polycom included a wide variety of features in the ViewStation FX, which makes it a great solution for whatever video conferencing need your company or organization is seeking to fulfill.
